SETTLERS ON MARBLEHEAD NECK

Marblehead Neck, as we now call it, used to be a heavily wooded island about one mile in length, with approximately 300 acres and connected to the mainland by an isthmus which was awash at high tide.

In April, 1670, there were eight families, by grants from Salem, owned a total of thirty-seven acres of land on the Neck:

John Goyle (John Coitt) ; 8 acres

Will Kenner and Nicholas Lison; 5 acres

    John Wakefield; 4 acres

John and Samuell Gatchell; 6 acres

the Widow Blencher (widow Blanchard) ; 6 acres

Rafe Woren (Ralph Warren); 2 acres
